Computer repair, south of the river

Home and small-business machines. Slow, noisy, blue-screening, won't boot, or you've simply run out of room. Bring it in and we'll work out what's actually wrong before anyone starts spending money.

What we handle

Software

It works, but badly

  • Slowdowns, freezes and crashes
  • Malware and unwanted software
  • Operating-system trouble and reinstalls
  • Setting up a replacement machine
Hardware

It's physically broken

  • Won't power on, won't display
  • Failing drives — and getting the data off them
  • Memory and storage upgrades
  • Dust, heat and fan problems

How we work

  1. Diagnosis firstWe find out what's wrong before quoting. Guessing at repairs is how people end up paying twice.
  2. You hear the honest answerIncluding when the honest answer is that a machine isn't worth repairing. An eight-year-old laptop needing a new board usually isn't.
  3. You decideWe tell you the cost and what it buys you. Nothing goes ahead until you say so.

Worth knowing

Can you get my files back?

Often, yes — a dead computer usually doesn't mean dead data, and a failing drive can frequently be copied off. Stop using the machine and get it to us; continuing to run a failing drive is what turns a recoverable problem into an unrecoverable one.

Do you work on Macs?

Ask. Some jobs yes, some are better off with Apple. We'll point you to the right place rather than take on work we can't finish properly.

Is it worth fixing, or should I replace it?

That's a real question and we treat it as one. Sometimes the repair is a fraction of a new machine and buys you years; sometimes it's most of the cost of a replacement. We'll show you both numbers.

Phlex does more than this. Tape transfers, computer repair, and buying and selling collectibles all come out of the same small shop south of the river.
